Ike, Kane Hodder is a man haunted by a tragic accident: one drunken night out hunting ends with him accidentally shooting his pregnant wife Virginia Bryant in the eye. Since then, he is tormented by visions of his wife and their unborn son, pushing him toward atonement through a grisly ritual: to obtain replacement eyes. At Exit 33, he targets women who pull into his secluded gas station. He sabotages a pump so their car stalls a short distance away, then he drives up, subdues the woman, and drags her back to his dim, trophy-lined station. There, he gouges out her eyes, and preserves them, tucking them among the mounted hunting trophies in his den.
