It aired from 24 Nov 2004 to 25 May 2005 for 51 episodes. Adapted from Choi In‑ho’s novel, it follows Jang Bogo’s rise from slave to maritime power in Silla. The series topped ratings, sold to eight countries, earning $1.8 million; its Wando County set became a tourist spot.
