Dr. Richard Jacks is a skilled but frustrated perfumer working for a major fragrance company. His projects keep failing, and his chief executive, Mrs. Unterveldt, rejects his latest formula, insisting it sounds like a woman’s perfume and that a woman should work on it. When a family event changes his trajectory, Richard attends the will reading after his great-uncle dies and discovers he is the great-grandson of Dr. Henry Jekyll. This revelation plants a dangerous ambition in him: to modernize his ancestor’s original serum by adding more estrogen, in the hope of perfecting a scent that could redefine the brand.
He tests the serum and waits through a long night, only to be met with silence. An ordinary job interview at a restaurant becomes a catalytic moment: a waiter spills coffee on him, and his sudden surge of optimism about a better salary fuels the transformation that begins to unfold. The changes are rapid and disorienting: his fingernails lengthen, arm hair recedes, his voice shifts, and his male anatomy shifts toward a female form inside his pants. Hair grows, and when the waiter dabs his chest, swelling becomes visible on both sides of his chest. In a panicked rush, he bolts from the restaurant to the safety of his laboratory, catching one last glimpse of himself in a mirror as he rips his shirt away to reveal a striking pair of breasts.
The transformed figure, a woman, is discovered by Pete in the lab’s shower. She strobes her own body with a self-possessed confidence and a playful, seductive awareness, and Pete can only mutter, “Wow.” > Wow, < — the moment is echoed in a lingering sense of awe and absurdity. The woman adopts the alias Helen Hyde and swiftly convinces Richard’s colleagues that she is his new assistant. She quickly proves herself by adding to the scent report, courting approval from the bosses, and ambitiously reveling in a shopping spree charged to Richard’s credit cards.
Helen’s ascent continues as she befriends Richard’s fiancée, Sarah, and convinces her to move out of Richard’s apartment, tightening the hold she has over Richard’s life. The next day, Richard returns to the office and finds that his new assistant is already making an impression. He discovers that Sarah has relocated to his cousin Larry’s apartment, and though Sarah is still angry at him, she praises both the mysterious Helen and the life she’s brought into Richard’s orbit, calling Helen “fantastic and so alive.” Richard manages to woo Sarah back for a romantic dinner at his place, but the moment he senses the transformation recur, Sarah’s perception shifts and she flees, confused by everything she’s learned.
Helen, now fully established in a sharp, sexy leather ensemble, questions Mintz about a promotion. He dismisses her as a mere secretary, and she counters by asking about available vacancies. She then proceeds to manipulate the situation, igniting a power struggle with Yves Dubois and Oliver Mintz. When Helen crosses a line by seducing them in the workplace, the dynamic shifts decisively in her favor: Dubois and Mintz find themselves enthralled by her, and the meeting with Marketing and Design becomes a platform for Helen to automate the move up the ladder. The tension between the two men, blurred by desire and professional ambition, reaches a peak as Helen orchestrates the momentum toward promoting her “new” scent, Indulge, into the limelight.
Helen doubles down on her control by producing two videotapes that reveal her true plan: she intends to seize Richard’s body entirely. Richard tries to resist by stripping naked in his office and scribbling obscene notes on his own body in a bid to provoke a reaction that might trigger a reversal of the transformation. The ploy backfires, and he ends up getting fired as Helen consolidates her grip on the office. In a cruel turn, Helen intercepts a call from Pete and, posing as a stranded driver, lures him into a trap and electrocutes him, sabotaging his concerns and removing any threat to her rise.
Sarah’s trust in Richard wavers until she sees security footage of his first transformation. To reverse the nightmare, Richard conceives a new serum, but it must be administered by Sarah after he completes a transformation. In a tense sequence Richard handcuffs himself and tethers his limbs to a bed to prevent Helen from escaping or sabotaging the cure. Sarah administers part of the formula, but not the entire cure before Helen makes her escape to attend Indulge’s launch party.
Sarah follows Helen into the party and witnesses the process of the formula gradually pushing Helen back toward Richard. When Helen finally reaches a celebratory moment, Sarah injects the remaining formula, and a final transformation occurs before the audience—Richard is restored to his true self. He delivers a speech to his colleagues, admitting that he was really Helen, but explaining that his experience as a woman helped him understand them better. The boss, impressed by his persistence and growth, welcomes him back with a promotion and some vacation time to recover. The story closes with Richard leaving the party hand in hand with Sarah, his future at the company secured and his resolve to navigate the consequences of his experiment clear.
