Dot Goes to Hollywood 1988

Yoram Gross’ eighth Dot movie opens in Australia with Dot and a koala named Gumley dancing and singing in the streets. A troubling sign emerges: an eye disease is spreading among the koalas, bringing blindness and death. Gumley contracts the illness, and Dot and Gumley struggle to raise money for a needed operation, but their efforts fall short.

A cheeky kangaroo named Dosey Face suggests that Dot should head to Hollywood, where money can be found quickly. In Hollywood, Dot meets a parade of famous people and attends an audition, hoping it will unlock funds for Gumley’s fate. During this time, Gumley is spotted and taken to the zoo, where a veterinarian diagnoses the disease but the operation remains financially out of reach for the facility.

Gumley is kept in captivity until Dot arrives and helps him escape. While they hide out in the zoo, Gumley’s condition worsens. After Dot wins a contest, the vet agrees to operate on Gumley’s eyes. While Gumley undergoes surgery, Dot hones her singing. The first attempt does not go as planned, but a second procedure two days later successfully cures Gumley.

Gumley returns to Dot during a performance, and the two sing together along with other characters, sharing a moment of triumph. The film also weaves in footage from The New Adventures of Tarzan, Moviestruck, Something to Sing About, Little Princess, and Flying Deuces.
