Detective Conan: The Darkest Nightmare 2016

A spy from the Black Organization, known by the codename Curaçao, successfully infiltrates the NPA Security Bureau Office, where she steals a critical list containing the identities of undercover agents working for major intelligence agencies like MI6, BND, CSIS, FBI, and CIA. During her escape, she is unexpectedly caught by Yuya Kazami, an officer from the Public Security Bureau, compelling her to flee. In an attempt to apprehend her, Rei Furuya, who is also known as Bourbon, engages in a high-octane car chase across the iconic Rainbow Bridge. The pursuit escalates, and with the intervention of Akai Shuichi, they manage to shoot out the tires of Curaçao’s vehicle, leading to a dramatic crash that sends her car off the bridge. In a miraculous twist of fate, Curaçao manages to escape just before her vehicle plunges into the water, later resurfacing at Tohto Aquarium.

The following day, the Detective Boys stumble upon Curaçao at the aquarium, where they find her suffering from amnesia and possessing a damaged phone from the previous day’s chaos. Conan, eager to assist, retrieves the broken device and captures images of Curaçao, later sending them to Ran, who passes them onto the Tokyo Metropolitan Police. After determining that Dr. Agasa is capable of recovering data from the phone, the group decides to stay close to Curaçao in hopes of helping her recover her lost memories.

As they spend time together, the Detective Boys witness Curaçao’s exceptional dart-throwing ability and her quick reflexes that save Genta Kojima from a dangerous fall. These moments create suspicion for Conan and Ai Haibara, leading them to believe that Curaçao may not be just an ordinary person, but instead another covert operative from the Black Organization. Meanwhile, while recovering the data from the phone, Dr. Agasa uncovers an alarming message: Curaçao had attempted to inform the organization of the names of critical NOC agents—including Stout, Aquavit, Riesling, Bourbon/Rei, and Kir/Hidemi Hondo. This revelation becomes even graver as it is discovered that agents Stout, Aquavit, and Riesling are assassinated by the Black Organization in various cities, while Rei and Hidemi are captured in Tokyo.

A pivotal moment occurs when Curaçao inadvertently recalls the names of the fallen agents while taking a ride on the Ferris wheel, where the vibrant colors trigger her reaction. Shortly after, the Tokyo Metropolitan Police take Curaçao into their custody, but the Public Security Bureau claims jurisdiction, suspecting that she was the one who infiltrated their office.

As events unfold, the Bureau decides to return Curaçao to the aquarium, where they hope to observe her reactions to specific triggers. However, the Black Organization, arriving in a Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey, sabotages the aquarium’s power supply during the night and plans to capture Curaçao when the Ferris wheel reaches its peak. With her memories slowly returning through a color pattern stimulus, Curaçao knocks out Yuya Kazami and makes her escape. The Black Organization then attempts to detonate a bomb they planted on the Ferris wheel, only for it to be disarmed by Rei, who acts on intel relayed by Conan.

In a fervent attempt to eliminate Curaçao, the organization resorts to open fire from their aircraft, causing the Ferris wheel to dangerously teeter. In a harrowing sequence of events, Akai, with the support of Conan and Rei, successfully brings down the V-22 Osprey. As the Ferris wheel begins to roll and threaten the safety of the Detective Boys trapped inside, Curaçao makes a sacrificial choice. She crashes a crane truck into the Ferris wheel to save the children, resulting in a devastating accident that ultimately leads to her death. Before succumbing, she confesses to Vermouth that the tampered message previously sent from her phone—which read “Bourbon and Kir are clean”—was of her own doing, thus ensuring that both her and Bourbon are able to continue their undercover operations within the Black Organization.
