The intrusion ends badly: Ira injures her ankle, Maya’s maid is hurt, and both girls are reprimanded. Maya unfolds her journey: she traveled to Delhi, searched for the letter writer, found nothing, but discovered that life beyond Shimla was warmer than she had imagined. She eventually met a kind jewelry shop owner, Ved, and they married, building a life in Delhi. The letters had awakened her to the possibilities of living fully, and she urges the girls to say “yes” to life. In the final beat, the futures of the two friends shift toward hopeful futures.
