In a maximum‑security penitentiary a viral outbreak turns inmates into flesh‑eating walkers. The authorities lock the undead inside the prison, but the guards and surviving prisoners become trapped in the same zombie‑infested facility. Travis Dee fights his way through a brutal onslaught of the undead, but a splash of infected blood hits his face and seeds a terrifying transformation. He clings to the belief that a rogue, experimental bio-toxin is the culprit and tries to convince the press and the police that the outbreak is man-made rather than natural. The authorities, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, are divided and suspicious, and ultimately he is sent away to Haywood Maximum Security Prison to await further testing and evaluation.
