Hours later, another call orders her to wait in a bathroom, cover her eyes, and cuff herself while the organizers arrive. They discuss how and when she will set off the bomb, insisting that she must act immediately if she is ever discovered or questioned, even if there is no one around. She asks why she would go through with it, especially in a seemingly empty setting, but the organizers give no answer. The group questions whether she wants to record a message for her parents, but she says they are dead, and a makeshift recording is prepared—changing her clothes and the backdrop, even showing a prop AK-47 and bandoliers. The video itself is never shown, and neither the goal nor the motive of the bombing is ever revealed. She is left to pace once more, wrestling with whether her motives are pure or real.

The next morning, the plans tighten: she is dressed in a specific outfit, given a fake ID, and told to memorize the details. The commander reassures her that the pain of the explosion will be like a mosquito bite and end quickly. She is taken to an underground location where she receives the backpack containing the bomb and is assured that she can carry it, while being instructed on how to trigger it using a portable MP3 player’s remote. Later, she is picked up by the same driver and dropped off at a bus stop that carries her toward New York City, with the target set near Times Square. She walks the city, asking pedestrians for directions and picking up snacks along the way, the weight of the mission pressing on her as she moves.

Approaching the plan’s location, a busy crosswalk, she waits for the light to turn green and for people to cross. Panic overtakes her, and she flees to a nearby restaurant’s bathroom to clean herself, as if overwhelmed by the moment. She returns to continue the plan, trembling and tense, and attempts to trigger the bomb with the music player’s remote, but nothing happens. The device fails to respond, leaving her standing in the street, frozen, trying again to make it work. She hustles back to the bathroom to inspect the wiring and the backpack’s contents, making another attempt, yet the bomb still does not go off.

With no way to contact the organizers, she wanders the city, unable to reach the hotel or her own cell phone, which also fails to connect. She runs out of coins, asking strangers for help as she makes another call to what could be her parents; they ask how her trip to Chicago is going, but she remains silent. Growing more stressed, she roams the streets, bumping the heavy backpack and, at one point, it slips from her grip and falls to the ground. A young man picks it up, asking why the bag is so heavy; she answers with a wry, whispered line, “it’s a bomb,” and he tries to flirt, only to be met with her frantic retreat.

The final image lingers on the protagonist, seated on a sidewalk at night, the backpack nowhere in sight. Desolate and weary, she murmurs and pleads for a sign, a moment of clarity in the darkness that surrounds her. The story unfolds with a stark, restrained gaze at how a young life becomes entangled in a plan she never fully understands.
