Following Stalin's death in 1953, a period of uncertainty and fear grips the Soviet Union, especially within the state security services. At a clandestine research facility known as the Institute, scientists carry out theoretical and experimental work, constantly wary of potential investigations and accusations. The Head of the Theoretical Department, Andrei Losev, endures interrogation and faces new challenges when he returns home, caught in a web of suspicion and paranoia.
