Dagr Reviews & Ratings
Critics gave Dagr 60% on Rotten Tomatoes. Our Echo Score gives it 45/100, strongest in art & craft (60) and weakest in rewatch factor (40).
Dagr Echo Score Breakdown
Overall, Dagr delivers a modestly competent but largely uninspired horror experience. Critics note its blend of modern tech with occult themes, yet many point to a faltering narrative that never fully capitalizes on its premise. User feedback emphasizes repetitive found‑footage conventions, uneven acting, and a predictable plot, while a few highlight effective camera work and occasional tension. Consequently, the film offers limited lasting appeal.
Our own 0–100 rating, built from five aspects: art, character, story, the sensory experience and how well a film rewatches.
- Art & Craft 60
In terms of art and craft, Dagr exhibits competent cinematography that leverages its found‑footage premise, with reviewers praising the cohesive camera work and occasional atmospheric scenery. However, the low‑budget aesthetic surfaces in uneven editing and modest production design, and some critics cite disjointed visual pacing. Overall, the visual execution is adequate but not exemplary.
- Character & Emotion 45
When assessing character and emotion, performances are uneven; several viewers describe the leads as among the worst seen, citing flat delivery and lack of chemistry. Contrastingly, a minority note genuine rapport between the protagonists and moments of nuanced interaction. The net effect is a largely ineffective emotional core that hampers audience investment.
- Story & Flow 45
In story and flow, Dagr’s plot is widely regarded as predictable and cluttered, with critics labeling it a rehashed take on familiar folk‑horror tropes. Some reviewers acknowledge a measured pacing that eventually builds tension, yet the early extensive dialogue and weak setup dilute narrative momentum. Consequently, the storyline feels derivative and under‑developed.
- Sensory Experience 50
Regarding sensory experience, the film’s sound design receives criticism for inconsistent mixing and ineffective horror cues, undermining immersion. Visual style, however, benefits from the Welsh countryside backdrop and purposeful use of handheld devices that reinforce the vlog motif. Overall, the sensory elements are a mixed bag, with notable visual strengths offset by audio shortcomings.
- Rewatch Factor 40
The rewatch factor for Dagr is limited; its repetitive found‑footage structure and predictable scares provide little incentive for multiple viewings. While occasional visual flair and a brief surge of tension are noted, the overall fatigue caused by sluggish pacing and under‑developed horror elements reduces lasting appeal, resulting in low replay value.

Spoilers ahead
Thea and Louise are two friends known for their YouTube videos where they film themselves stealing various items. They hide their faces and defend their thefts as anti-consumerism, insisting they will donate any proceeds to charity. For their most ambitious stunt yet, they crash an artsy countryside film shoot, posing as caterers and grabbing whatever they can. They plan to plant cameras throughout the old manor used for filming, turning this heist into one of their largest scores to date.
Meanwhile, the film crew — including Emma, Matt, Grey, Tori, and Hattie — is busy filming while Hattie is sent to fetch food and drinks. They stop at a local store and learn that the village has a history of occult activity.
