Six estranged adults, including Professor Jones Dina Meyer and Father Lyle Dey George Newbern, gather for the funeral of a childhood friend. The group reveals they were patients at a government mental facility during their youth, and their friend’s will asks them to return to the facility to open a time capsule they buried there. They agree and travel to the long-abandoned complex, where memories resurface and their behaviors regress toward their younger patient selves. When they excavate the container, they are stunned to find a young girl’s skeleton—the forgotten eighth friend they had all discharged at the time. This discovery unsettles them, and the night grows darker as they uncover evidence that cruel medical experiments were once performed on the children.
