Nathan Hayes (Ken Bevel) finds himself in a precarious situation at a gas station in Albany, Georgia, when his truck is unexpectedly stolen. In a desperate attempt to retrieve it, he clings to the side of the vehicle, battling with the thief through the open window. Despite his efforts, Hayes is violently thrown off as the truck crashes, leaving him in pain while struggling to get back up. With concerned bystanders urging him not to worry about the vehicle, he opens the back door to discover his infant son crying in his car seat, thankfully unharmed.
As help arrives, both the ambulance and police respond to the scene. Among the deputies are Adam Mitchell (Kevin Downes) and Shane Fuller. They learn that Hayes is a new deputy who has just relocated to the area. During their interaction, the sheriff emphasizes the importance of family time, stressing that research shows children without fathers are significantly more likely to encounter difficulties in life, including engaging in criminal activities. The sheriff’s team includes rookie David Thomson, who is still finding his way in his role.
Mitchell enjoys a close bond with his nine-year-old daughter, Emily, yet struggles to connect with his fifteen-year-old son, Dylan, due to their differing interests. On the other hand, Hayes, who never knew his biological father, has always treated a neighbor as a father figure, expressing his appreciation through Father’s Day cards. He is devoted to his three children but faces challenges, particularly with his teenage daughter, Jade, who resents his strict dating rules. Meanwhile, Fuller, navigating life after a divorce, shares joint custody of his son.
In a separate storyline, Javier Martinez (Robert Amaya), an immigrant trying to support his family, is feeling lost after losing his job. One day, while seeking guidance, he inadvertently helps Mitchell with his shed, and in turn, Mitchell relates him to a new job opportunity. Unfortunately, chaos ensues when Derrick Freeman, a teenager grappling with rejection from Hayes and his daughter, succumbs to gang involvement, drowning in the lure of drugs.
The plot thickens when tragedy strikes Mitchell’s family—his daughter, Emily, is killed by a drunk driver, sending him into a spiral of despair. In his grief, he seeks solace in the Bible, leading him to draft a heartfelt “Resolution” aimed at becoming a better father and honoring God in his family life. Seeking solidarity in this commitment, Mitchell, along with Hayes, Fuller, Thomson, and Martinez, joins in a formal ceremony led by Hayes’s mentor. Through this journey, each father begins to rebuild fractured relationships with their children.
Hayes finds a way to connect with Jade by gifting her a purity ring as a promise for her future. In a moment of clarity, he visits the grave of his biological father, offering forgiveness despite never having met him. Fuller, too, steps up his game as a dad, while Thomson confronts his past mistakes, reaching out to a daughter he abandoned years ago.
As Martinez faces a moral dilemma at work where he’s asked to manipulate documents, he upholds his integrity, leading to unexpected advancement in his career. Tension builds when Mitchell realizes that Fuller has been engaging in unlawful activities, stealing drugs from evidence, prompting Mitchell to report his partner in a bid to uphold his pledge.
The stakes rise when Hayes and Thomson encounter a gang leader during a routine traffic stop, inadvertently plunging into a dangerous situation. Just as things seem dire, Derrick intervenes, showcasing a transformation sparked by his complicated circumstances.
In a poignant Father’s Day church service, the men present their Resolutions, and Mitchell passionately calls for positive influence within their families. The film culminates with heartwarming moments, including Mitchell racing alongside his son and Fuller’s son in a 5K event. Hayes takes a moment to reflect on his journey in prison with Derrick, while Thomson finally meets his daughter. The story concludes with the powerful words from Joshua 24:15: > “Choose today whom you will serve, but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
