Los Angeles is haunted by a masked serial killer who breaks into stores after hours, murders the workers, and steals the surveillance tapes to relive his crimes in chilling detail. At Steve’s liquor store, the main entrance is boarded up after an incident with a homeless man, setting a claustrophobic mood as night falls and the tension thickens. The small group inside—the deliveryman named Morty, along with the store staff and regulars—waits and talks, hashing out the killer and the eye‑watering bounty of $500,000 for his capture, while revealing the brutal methods they imagine using against him: eye gouging, exsanguination in plastic wrap, sawing, and decapitation. The conversation is candid and unnervingly practical, a dark premonition of what could become reality.
After the doors close, [Steve] keeps the after-hours crew tight: a clerk named Donny, and two regulars, a prostitute named Jess and a phoning‑sex worker named Mona, who stay to play cards in the upstairs apartment to keep Steve’s nephew Jimmy occupied while he wrestles with drug withdrawal. Unseen by them, the Convenience Store Killer has already chosen this quiet group as his next victims, and the killer quietly dispatches a homeless man in the alley, cutting him in half before sneaking into the building.
When Mona goes downstairs to check out odd noises, the killer strikes with a brutal, almost ritualized method—stabbing her eyes with cornettos and tucking her body away in a freezer. The danger becomes brutally personal: soon [Jimmy] is murdered, stabbed while wrapped in plastic, and [Steve] is killed by a brutal bisecting with the deli’s meat saw. Donny and Jess bear witness to Steve’s death on a security monitor, and, upon discovering the bodies of Mona and Jimmy, they realize the killer is enacting the precise methods they had joked about, leaving them trapped inside the store with no means to call for help. The fear is palpable, but so is their resolve to survive until a delivery arrives.
Morty eventually arrives with a delivery at dawn, and [Jess] and [Donny] scramble to improvise a plan. They find the hidden room where Steve kept his surveillance equipment and seal themselves inside, hoping to outlast the killer and salvage some chance at safety or payoff. Morty arrives and, with [Jess], tries to seal the killer in the basement, so they can claim the reward money. Donny, however, accidentally rewinds Steve’s surveillance gear to the earlier discussion about the killer, and this mishap exposes Morty as the murderer—the only one who could have known the exact lines of their earlier, dangerous discussion.
The room goes silent as the truth lands: [Morty] has to be stopped. [Jess] is beheaded (the very fate she warned of), and Donny is knocked unconscious. When he awakens, Morty stands ready to finish him, but Donny realizes Morty needs the surveillance tapes, and he taunts him by insisting that only he knows where Steve’s surveillance equipment is hidden. The confrontation escalates into a brutal fight, the kind that leaves both men unconscious and the night incomplete.
Hours pass before the authorities finally arrive, uncovering a disturbing chain of events: Morty had killed Donny by force‑feeding him donuts—Donny’s favorite treat. The aftermath unfolds at another store, where customers and employees recount the massacre, while the owner tweaks the grim calculus of revenge, insisting he would escalate far beyond what the killer has done. The film ends on a tense, unresolved note: Morty reappears at the scene, taunting the gathered crowd with a chilling question and a threat, reading as a final, unsettling dare to those who survived and those who might try to stop him next.
