Alejandro “Ale” (Alejandro Polanco), a 12-year-old Latino orphan, navigates the vibrant yet harsh streets of Queens, New York City. The film begins with Ale waiting on the roadside alongside several men in search of work. When a pickup truck pulls up looking for two workers, Ale eagerly jumps into the back, despite being told he isn’t needed. The driver, realizing Ale’s determination, ultimately gives him some cash for breakfast before sending him on his way.

Throughout the day, Ale partners with his friend Carlos (Carlos Zapata) to sell chocolates and candies to unsuspecting subway passengers. After their venture concludes, they split their earnings, and Carlos reveals that Rob (Rob Sowulski), the proprietor of an auto repair shop in Willets Point, is in need of new workers. With hope in his heart, Ale makes his way to the shop and soon secures both a job and a place to live.

As time passes, Ale’s life takes a significant turn when his older sister Isamar “Izzy” (Isamar Gonzales) arrives, seeking work herself. He manages to get her a position at a nearby food van, which serves the local laborers. Inspired by their potential, Ale discovers a van for sale from Carlos’s uncle and dreams of transforming it into a food truck that they could run together. Both siblings begin saving diligently in hopes of acquiring the $4,500 van.

One fateful night, curiosity leads Ale and Carlos to a truck stop where they encounter Isamar in a disheartening situation—she is working as a prostitute. This revelation leaves Ale heartbroken, but he refrains from confronting her about it. As they persist in their work, Ale devises additional schemes to earn money, including selling pirated DVDs, stealing hubcaps from parked cars, and working at another auto shop owned by Ahmad (Ahmad Razvi) where he strips down a stolen vehicle.

The situation escalates when Ale overhears Isamar on the phone, suspecting she is talking to a customer or a boyfriend. Overcome with frustration, he pilfers money from her, pooling it with their savings to purchase the van from Carlos’s uncle. However, the joy of this purchase is short-lived when Ahmad informs Ale that the interior needs approximately $10,000 in repairs to be safe for food service. Feeling betrayed by Carlos’s uncle, Ale’s anger directs him towards Carlos, leading to a confrontation between the friends.

Now feeling utterly defeated and lost, Ale makes a rash decision at the local stadium; he impulsively snatches a woman’s handbag, hoping to sell the cell phone inside. However, when Isamar questions him about it, he lashes out, demanding she “should be working”—a reflection of the cruel realities they both face. This confrontation reveals their fractured bond as siblings, with Isamar recognizing that Ale has uncovered her hidden truth.

As the narrative progresses, Ale is left with nothing, his aspirations and life reduced to fragmented pieces. In a desperate search for Isamar, he returns to the truck stop, where he attempts to lash out at a man with his sister, who is once again in a compromising situation. The tension leads them both back to the auto shop, where Izzy locks herself away in the restroom, shutting Ale out completely.

In a poignant conclusion, Ale finds solace amidst the chaos by feeding seeds to nearby pigeons. The sudden arrival of these birds brings a fleeting smile to Isamar’s face as she observes her brother. Yet, just as quickly, she scatters them, causing them to rise into the sky—a symbol of their fragmented lives and lost opportunities floating away. The film leaves audiences reflecting on the struggles of family bonds and the harsh realities faced by those striving to survive.
