Dr. Kush, a gynecologist, is a man who enjoys relaxing with his friends and fears that marriage might steal his hard-won freedom. On a friend’s candid advice to protect himself by pretending to be innocent, he agrees to marry a docile, traditional-looking girl, Kushi. He soon learns that she is cut from the same cloth: she married him for the same reason—so she wouldn’t have to surrender her independence. They file for a divorce but decide to stay together so their families won’t find out. What starts as a practical arrangement deepens into friendship, and friendship slowly blossoms into love.
On Kushi’s birthday, Kush gifts her a seaside escape—perhaps to Goa—hoping to seal their unspoken bond. They confess their love to one another while they are drunk. Just before this confession, the court had already sanctioned a divorce. Then a new twist arrives: Kushi discovers she is pregnant. She chooses to keep the baby because she loves Kush, but she runs away to shield the child from her family’s disapproval. This marks a transformation in her character, as she moves out alone to protect her child, only returning when she reaches the seventh month. Kush, meanwhile, takes a transfer to Italy to mend his broken heart and to take some time off. When he finally travels to see her again, a misunderstanding engineered by her uncle leaves him even more brokenhearted, especially after the death of a patient’s child due to pregnancy complications, and he suspects that Kushi won’t be by his side.
Weeks pass, and Kushi goes into labor at the same hospital where Kush arrives after a car accident. A nurse informs him that a pregnant patient is in critical condition, and there is no surgeon available. Kush agrees to perform the operation without realizing it is Kushi in the operating room. He meets his in-laws, who explain everything, and he helps deliver their child.
The epilogue shows their child grown up (Charitrya’s debut) and the family living happily.
