Calcutta Mail 2003

Avinash Anil Kapoor arrives in Calcutta, determined to find his only son, Ishu, and quickly discovers that a crowd of people seems eager to attach themselves to his every step. His only lead is a phone number given to him by a police officer before he arrives. In need of a place to stay, he meets Reema, a bubbly novelist who goes by Bulbul Rani Mukerji. She claims to be researching her next book, and when the room Avinash needs is already occupied by Bulbul, he ends up sharing the space—sleeping outside the door. Bulbul’s warmth and spirit bring a glimmer of light to his heavy, solitary journey, and she gradually becomes a bright, comforting presence in his life.

Flashbacks reveal a shared history: Sanjana Manisha Koirala and Avinash once lived in Calcutta with their only child Ishu. A day of violence changes everything: Avinash witnesses a crime, helps the victim, and takes him to the hospital. The perpetrators strike back, killing Sanjana and abducting Ishu. The police investigate, but the child’s fate remains unknown.

As he grieves, Avinash refuses to give up. He begins a painstaking inquiry that carries him away from Calcutta to Mumbai aboard the Calcutta Mail, chasing the possibility that Ishu is alive or, at worst, trapped in a dangerous scheme. The journey tests his resolve and plunges him deeper into a mystery that could reshape his future.
