The story kicks off amidst a fierce battle in the crumbling palace of Kaguya Otsutsuki, where the skilled ninja Sasuke Uchiha faces two mysterious foes. Fast forward 15 years after the conclusion of the Fourth Great Ninja War, the village of Konohagakure flourishes under the leadership of the Seventh Hokage, Naruto Uzumaki. Happily married to Hinata Uzumaki, they are blessed with two children, Boruto Uzumaki and Himawari Uzumaki. Recently, Boruto, along with his teammates, Sarada Uchiha and Mitsuki, has become part of an elite ninja team guided by their mentor, Konohamaru Sarutobi. Despite his achievements, Boruto feels neglected as Naruto devotes more attention to his duties as Hokage rather than to their family.
When Sasuke returns to warn Naruto about a formidable enemy he’s encountered, Boruto grapples with anger after his father forgets Himawari’s birthday. Seeking strength to outshine Naruto, Boruto convinces Sasuke to train him, with the stipulation that Boruto must master the Rasengan technique—a challenge that he takes on with the help of Konohamaru. Struggling with the technique, Boruto resorts to using a Scientific Ninja Tool, a device from the boastful scientist Katasuke, who had hoped to use Boruto for his personal gain before Naruto intervened. Even though Boruto’s actions are rooted in deception, Sasuke agrees to assist Boruto, gearing him up for the approaching Chunin Exam.
During the Chunin Exams, driven by the desire for his father’s approval, Boruto cheats with the aid of the Scientific Ninja Tool and passes. However, Naruto immediately identifies Boruto’s dishonesty and publicly disqualifies him. Angered by his father’s preoccupation with work, Boruto lashes out, prompting Naruto to reflect on his role in their tumultuous relationship. Just then, the menacing figures Sasuke warned Naruto about—Kinshiki Otsutsuki and Momoshiki Otsutsuki—make their grand entrance, seeking Kurama, the Nine-Tails spirit residing inside Naruto, to harvest chakra for immortality. In a bid to protect Boruto and the citizens around them, Naruto makes the ultimate sacrifice.
When Boruto regains consciousness, he learns from Sasuke that Naruto is alive, albeit trapped in another dimension. Teaming up with the other Kage to rescue him, Boruto now understands his father’s sacrifices and is determined to reconcile. Upon reaching the alternate dimension, they find Naruto captive, and an intense battle ensues. After Naruto is freed, father and son take a vital moment to mend their relationship, acknowledging the misunderstandings that create distance between them. As the fight intensifies, Momoshiki consumes Kinshiki to boost his strength but ultimately falls victim to the combined might of Naruto and Sasuke. In a dramatic twist, Katasuke, hoping to take down Momoshiki, inadvertently restores the enemy’s power instead. Trusting Boruto, Naruto shares his chakra, enabling them to unleash a colossal Rasengan that obliterates Momoshiki.
In the aftermath of their victory, Naruto is committed to nurturing his bond with his family, consciously setting aside time for them. Boruto aspires to emulate Sasuke, a guardian of the village from the shadows, while also supporting Sarada in her ambition to become the next Hokage. In a surprising turn during the credits, Mitsuki reveals his parentage as the son of former adversary Orochimaru, leaving both his teammates in astonishment.
