The film opens with a sweeping montage of a youth training in tai chi, and a steady narration that explains the brutal discipline: mastery makes the body nearly impervious to weapons, yet it comes with a stark price — hair that turns white by the age of thirty and a voice that rises to a sharp, high tone. The focus shifts to the Lei Ping Kung Fu school, where students witness two thugs from the Chin Yin Chi clan assault an old man in front of his daughter. The lead student, Ming Tu, steps in to interrupt the attack, managing to fend off the assailants but not before one of his comrades is mortally wounded. The attackers warn that the Chin Yin Chi clan will return to finish what they started, and Ming Tu ferries the injured elder to safety, escorting him and his daughter back to the Lei Ping school under the protection of their wise master.

The two formidable leaders of the Chin Yin Chi clan—Chin Pa and Chief Chin—arrive at the Lei Ping school with a demand: surrender the old man. The master refuses, and one of his top pupils volunteers to defend the school’s honor. Despite his extraordinary skills, he is no match for the two invaders. The master selects Ming Tu as his successor and confronts the intruders, but is overwhelmed and killed. The aged protector, bound by a peace oath taken long ago, lifts a sword once more after two decades and leaps into combat, only to fall as well. With the master gone, Ming Tu steps into a leadership role and swears to carry out the master’s intent: to preserve the school and exact vengeance on the Chin Yin Chi clan.

To even the odds, Ming Tu hatches a plan to remove Chin Pa from the equation, knowing Chin Pa is not invulnerable. He challenges Chin Pa to a duel, but Chin Pa’s blade-tipped steel baton proves deadly; Ming Tu narrowly escapes. Undeterred, Ming Tu undergoes grueling training to counter Chin Pa’s weapon and discovers a countermeasure: he oils his sword so Chin Pa cannot gain a grip, and the tactic succeeds, allowing Ming Tu to kill Chin Pa. The news of Chin Pa’s death sends Chief Chin into a fevered search for Ming Tu, who senses the need for more training before facing the elder Chin.

As Ming Tu rests and refines his craft, Sa Chien—Mark Lung, the next senior pupil—takes charge and trains with renewed vigor. He pushes himself to the limit in the hopes of overthrowing Chief Chin, but even his best efforts fall short against the seasoned adversary. The master’s daughter, Xiao Fei, crosses paths with an elderly nun who guides her toward a crucial insight: the key to Chief Chin’s vulnerability lies not in his typical self, but in moments when he is not acting as “himself.” With this revelation, Xiao Fei aids Sa Chien in uncovering Chief Chin’s one weakness and points him toward a path that might expose it.

In the final stretch, Sa Chien faces the near-impossible task of drawing Chief Chin out of his guarded persona long enough to reveal the vulnerable spot. The elder’s knowledge, passed through Xiao Fei, hints at a breakthrough, but the challenge remains enormous: getting Chief Chin to reveal his weakness requires provoking him to become someone else entirely. The film builds toward the tense possibility that, through perseverance, cunning, and the support of those loyal to the Lei Ping school, the balance of power could shift against the Chin Yin Chi clan — even as the exact outcome waits on Chief Chin’s willingness to let his guard down.
