Blind Spot 2017

The film opens with Thea leaving a handball practice with a friend. She arrives at home where her mother, Marie, is tucking her younger brother into bed. Thea makes a phone call to her father, Anders, but there is no answer. She then returns to her room, writes a diary entry, and in a sudden, desperate moment, jumps out of the 4th-floor window of her apartment building. Marie reacts immediately, rushing outside and finding Thea badly injured, crying out for help. Nearby, her father Anders and her father-in-law Hasse, along with Mona, come to her aid. An ambulance arrives, and Marie and Hasse follow Thea to the hospital.

At the hospital, Marie and Hasse are greeted by Martin, a nurse who specializes in care for patients’ relatives. Anders arrives soon after and, overwhelmed, hysterically demands to see his daughter. The family is allowed to be with Thea as the trauma team works on her, but Anders faints at the sight. Marie, Anders and Hasse are shown waiting in a room for a report from the trauma surgeon.

Martin, consulting Thea’s medical records, reveals a troubling detail: Marie is Thea’s adoptive mother, and Thea’s biological mother had committed suicide. When asked about this, Anders and Marie insist that Thea had been treated by a psychologist and had shown no signs of depression or suicidal tendencies.

The trauma surgeon delivers the difficult news that saving Thea may not be possible. Marie leaves the hospital to go home and wait for an update. Back at home, she enters Thea’s bedroom and searches through her belongings, discovering the diary. She breaks down upon reading it, lying down in Thea’s bed as the scene fades to black.
