Jingo Johnson, a Hollywood stuntman, decides to visit his seriously ill mother in his rural hometown of Black Oak. When he arrives, he quickly uncovers unsettling news: a mining company has purchased his mother’s farm and his childhood home, leaving him shocked and concerned. To make matters worse, his former girlfriend Lucy is now involved with Harrison Hancock, who works for the mining corporation. This revelation adds emotional tension to the already complicated situation.
Throughout his visit, Jingo teams up with Lucy’s brother, Homer Metcalf, and together they break into the farm, only to find that it has been completely demolished. Their discovery sparks a confrontation with Harrison Hancock and his men, resulting in a heated fight. During the chaos, Sheriff Otis Grimes intervenes, advising Jingo to leave town, a decision influenced by the sheriff’s evident dislike for Jingo, who is now under surveillance.
Jingo’s efforts to reconnect with Lucy become more complicated, as she dreams of escaping her small-town life and is hesitant to reignite their relationship. Meanwhile, Jingo uncovers that the nursing home caring for his mother — owned by Hancock’s father — has purchased the farm and that several other local landowners are also patients there. He learns that Sheriff Grimes is particularly interested if Jingo makes contact with his mother’s nurse, Beulah Barnes, or Doctor Roades.
With a sense of suspicion, Jingo retrieves some of his mother’s pills from the nursing home, curious about their true nature. Visiting Doctor Roades, he learns more about the medication, but before he can get clear answers, he is attacked by Harrison Hancock and told to stop his investigation. Undeterred, Jingo confronts Hancock himself, only to discover that Hancock senior intends to get rid of the landowners by any means necessary.
As the plot thickens, Jingo reunites with Lucy and the two share a night together in a barn, seeking solace amid the chaos. After his mother passes away, Jingo uncovers a terrible truth: the pills prescribed to his mother, labeled as antibiotics, were actually causing her blood disease. It becomes clear that the nursing home is part of a conspiratorial plan masterminded by Hancock senior and Sheriff Grimes. They aim to eliminate the landowners to acquire their property, with plans to murder the nurse and doctor and pin the blame on Jingo.
The situation reaches a climax when Sheriff Grimes executes his deadly plan, killing both the nurse and Doctor Roades. Nurse Barnes witnesses the murders, raising the alarm. Jingo locates Grimes at the old mine workings, leading to a final confrontation. After a tense struggle, Jingo manages to arrest Sheriff Grimes. With justice served, Jingo leaves Black Oak with Lucy, heading back to Hollywood, leaving behind the dark secrets and the corrupt scheme to start anew.
