Billboard Dad 1998

Set in Los Angeles, California, the film follows two 12-year-old twin sisters, Emily and Tess Tyler, as they try to help their widowed father, Max, a gifted painter, sculptor, and artist, find a girlfriend. Emily is a surfer, and Tess is a member of the high-diving team, underscoring their different passions and shared drive.

After their initial attempts end in failure, Tess and Emily team up with their friend, Cody, to paint an advertisement on a giant billboard high above Sunset Boulevard.

Many women respond to the billboard, and Debbie writes back to Max with letters, with Debbie bringing along her friend Brooke as a backup for the date with Max.

Brooke and Max meet and soon start dating, which unites the kids in more ways than one, even as Tess and Emily initially dislike Brooke’s son, Ryan, a skater punk who seems to threaten the new romance.

When Max’s business manager, Nigel, devises an elaborate scheme to break up the relationship, Ryan and the sisters rally to thwart the plan, proving their wit and teamwork can outpace adult schemes.

Through a blend of humor and heart, the story follows how a makeshift family of kids and adults navigates trust, loyalty, and the messy-but-bright realities of growing up, learning that love can appear in unexpected places and that courage sometimes comes from those who are only just learning to stand up for themselves.
