Two close friends, Anupam and Rajat, find themselves at a crossroads in their married lives. Rajat has married Maya, a woman whose days are consumed by religious rituals and a steady diet of melodramatic TV serials, while Anupam has tied the knot with Rai, a dedicated women’s activist and social worker. The spark of youth has dimmed into routine, and both men grow restless and frustrated, craving a rare slice of peace.

To pursue that respite, they hatch a plan to travel together under the (false) pretense of a business trip to Puri, secretly steering their path toward the hill town of Darjeeling via Tarapith. On the road, their seemingly ordinary journey takes a wild turn when their bus is hijacked by a dacoit known as Bullet Singh. In a twist of fate, Bullet Singh is really Ganesh Maity, a village boy who hides a deep, unspoken love for Malati and adopts a robber’s life in an attempt to win her attention. The dangerous persona he adopts is both a shield and a mirror for his longing.

Anupam and Rajat manage to escape Bullet’s grasp, only to stumble into a brothel where a sudden police raid erupts. Mistaken for clients, they narrowly escape once more, but the chaos pulls them back toward Bullet Singh, whose own story—of love for Malati—begins to unfold and humanize the outlaw in their eyes. The encounter deepens the threads of fate that bind the four travelers, turning a simple escape into a tangled tableau of desire, fear, and loyalty.

Back home, Maya and Rai learn where their husbands have wandered and decide to intervene, disguising themselves as reporters to bring them back. What follows is a long sequence of comic misadventures, close calls, and moments of honest confession. When Anupam finally erupts in anger, he voices a blunt wish for some personal peace—a sentiment that shifts the mood and softens the edges of their predicament.

The wives, hearing the truth in their husbands’ voices, come to see how pressure, control, and irritation have strained the marriage on both sides. A surprising empathy takes root, and they choose not to scold but to reconcile, proposing a renewed road trip together rather than a retreat from one another. In a final twist, Bullet Singh is arrested, yet Malati decides to stay with him in prison, underscoring a stubborn, stubbornly hopeful thread of affection that persists even after the law takes hold.

The story closes on a note of uneasy harmony: the four adults emerge with a tempered understanding of love, freedom, and the search for peace amid the chaos of life, suggesting that sometimes the road to peace runs through forgiveness, shared journeys, and a willingness to see one another anew.
