Bells of Innocence 2003

Jux Jonas is a man whose faith in God is precarious. After his daughter was hit and killed by a car, he has spent the last few years “tearing through life,” avoiding pain and turning away from the sacred path he once followed.

Reluctantly, he journeys with Conrad Champlain and Oren Ames aboard a plane to Mexico to hand out Bibles as a form of ministry. The trio’s mission starts with a sense of purpose, but disaster strikes when their small aircraft crashes and leaves them stranded in the secluded wasteland of Ceres, a town where the residents are pale and eerie, and visitors are treated as unwelcome outsiders.

As they navigate this strange place, they discover that no one outside can reach them, a silence that grows more unsettling by the minute. A local rancher, Matthew, offers a glimmer of connection by lending them a two-way radio, a lifeline in a place that seems cut off from the world. The town’s mood darkens as residents openly reject Matthew and what he represents.

The danger deepens as it becomes clear that the town elder Joshua Ravel is not simply a stern administrator but an agent of Satan, who has controlled the children of Ceres for centuries to drive humanity toward an unholy war. In this crisis of faith and fear, the mission takes on new meaning: God has sent Matthew to observe, protect, and lead broken believers toward Christian faith. As the forces of evil prepare for a spiritual Armageddon, using the town’s children as terrifying hosts, the protagonists realize they must make a fateful choice about where they stand for all time. Even Matthew cannot interfere alone, and Conrad Champlain and Oren Ames must decide whether to align with the forces of light or be drawn into the town’s sinister plot.
