A Broadway playwright wants to keep writing plays for his wife, a star actress, but she wishes to retire to Connecticut. After heated arguments they divorce. She impulsively marries a banker, only to discover the divorce never took effect. She alerts her former husband, who thwarts the consummation by flooding her hotel suite with a chaotic parade of plumbers, waiters, porters, chambermaids, bellhops, desk clerks, exterminators and finally a crowd of convention‑goers, ensuring no bedtime story can happen.
