Pete’s girlfriend Tonita nurses him, they fall in love, and Michael marries her to spite his relatives, taking her to New York in Indian dress to embarrass the family.

Michael Carter, Gene Raymond, a young New York socialite, staggers home drunk and declares that he intends to marry Mary White the very next day. The butler alerts his parents, and the next morning, his sister Diana Carter-Curson, Juliette Compton, visits Mary’s apartment and ends the relationship by labeling Mary a disgrace in the eyes of the family. ” Mary struggles to believe the charges, but the family’s warnings echo over the phone, as Michael’s butler confirms the rumors. Diana then presents Mary with a check and a ticket to California, exiting triumphantly.
