In a posh Pune neighborhood, Balraj Kohli and Purnima Kohli share a comfortable life as a middle‑aged couple, with two sons, Sagar Kohli and Babbu. The family’s mood brightens when Sagar falls in love with a medical student, Sarita Sethi, and the pair become engaged, signaling a promising new chapter for everyone involved.

Beneath the surface, a web of secrets begins to unfold. It is revealed that Purnima Kohli is Balraj’s second wife and not Sagar’s biological mother, while Balraj is the husband of Sharada Kohli, Purnima’s elder sister. When the newly married Purnima loses her husband in an accident, a shocked Sharada suffers a fall and sustains a head injury. This catastrophe lands her in a Mumbai mental institution for the past 14 years. Over the years, with no hopes of Sharada’s recovery, Balraj and Purnima proceed with their marriage, turning a tragedy into a carefully guarded arrangement that keeps the truth hidden.

The tension intensifies when Sharada is jolted back to life in a dramatic way: a guard’s blow from an inmate at the institution hits her head, and she suddenly awakens from her extended coma. The doctor explains that she was in a comatose state for 14 years but does not reveal the full truth about Balraj and Purnima’s marriage. As Sharada returns home, Purnima orchestrates a painstaking reconstruction of the past, dressing herself in widow’s garb and sending Babbu to stay with Sarita. Balraj, though pleased to see Sharada recovered, feels a pang of sadness at seeing his sister‑in‑law’s sisterly rival-turned-wife in mourning dress.
