Bandhuvulostunnaru Jagratha 1989

In Madras, Chittibabu, an orphaned bank employee, longs for a family and kin. He pours his time and money into forming close ties with friends, only to find them taking advantage of his generosity. He even engineers a leave of absence by cleverly manipulating his manager, Yeddirajula Naidu.

At Sudhakar’s sister’s wedding, he meets Satya, the daughter of Subba Rao and Annapurna, and a sincere connection develops. [Subba Rao] is portrayed as a man famed for charity and aiding relatives, yet his open-handedness attracts opportunists who prey on kinship. The film recalls the lives of Sundaramma and her family, including [Kistaiah], Lakshmi, Surayya and others, who often profit from others’ goodwill.

As love blossoms, Chittibabu’s world begins to shift. He pursues Satya and the elders grant their blessing. With this new circle, he starts to enjoy a comfortable life, hosting relatives at his expense.

As the festival nears, Subba Rao and Annapurna decide to move Satya closer to their home to shield her from meddling relatives. The group gathers at Chittibabu’s place; a well-meaning but sly figure named Bandhu Murthy enters the scene, presenting himself as a friend who can stabilize the family ties.

Together with Satya, Sudhakar, and [Bandhu Murthy], Chittibabu hatches a plan to manage the relatives’ greed. He engineers a rift among them, persuades them to shower the family with costly gifts, and fabricates a supposed treasure that will be shared with the most devoted hosts until the festival.

When Chittibabu finally unveils his maneuver, the relatives react with anger and contempt, cutting ties and confronting him. Yet, as the dust settles, they realize the hollowness of their own behavior and depart, seeking forgiveness.

In the end, Chittibabu anchors his life in a renewed sense of kinship and responsibility. The story closes on a light, humorous note as a new family bond forms, marking a final send-off to the old way of living.
