In a city where the line between law and corruption blurs, Karnan, an orphan, grows up to become a ruthlessly ambitious Sub-Inspector who treats the badge as a ticket to a luxurious, bribe-fueled life. His ascent is marked not by reform but by a quick, practice-heavy pragmatism that wins him a dangerous ally in the local crime lord, Kaalirajan, after he helps release four of Kaalirajan’s brothers—Kumar, Prakash, Vinay, and Sabari—from lock‑up on smuggling charges. This fragile partnership seeds a clash with Abdul Kader, a sincere constable who tries to push back against Karnan’s escalating misdeeds.

Meanwhile, Karnan’s personal life takes a turn when he meets and falls for Sindhu. On her birthday, Sindhu is targeted by Kaalirajan’s men, but Karnan manages to pull her out of danger. As a birthday gift, Sindhu asks him to protect the girl Kaalirajan had intended to kidnap and kill. That girl turns out to be Sandhya, and Karnan charges into a dangerous fight with Kaalirajan’s goons to save her. Karnan’s path to truth takes a painful turn when he confronts Sandhya and discovers that Kaalirajan’s four brothers kidnapped, raped, and murdered Bhavani, a crime that was captured on camera and stored with Sandhya. Taking the camera, Karnan arranges for Sandhya and her mother to relocate to the United States for safety. Yet Sandhya’s quiet conversation with Karnan shatters him, as he realizes his own complicity in Bhavani’s fate—the day those brothers escaped he had allowed their flight.

This revelation becomes a turning point. Karnan undergoes a dramatic transformation, bravely fighting off the remaining goons at the police station as Abdul Kader witnesses a change in him. He then sets out to track down and physically confront the brothers, delivering beatings until they are in custody. The autopsy confirms Bhavani’s corpse, and Karnan presents the camera as evidence—only to learn it is empty. He pleads for one more day to gather the missing proof that could seal the case and prevent the brothers’ exoneration.

The tension escalates when Kaalirajan’s men ambush a intoxicated Karnan, burying him alive in a brutal display. He escapes, reaching the court the following day and declaring, not as one of four but as one of five men who assaulted Bhavani. He convinces the judge to sentence all five to capital punishment, a gamble meant to ensure none of them slips away. The commissioner permits Karnan to witness the hangings, and the city watches as the four brothers are executed, only to see Karnan himself condemned alongside them.

Hours after the executions, Sandhya and her mother arrive in Chennai, publicly revealing Karnan’s innocence and his ultimate sacrifice to ensure punishment for the criminals. The nation is shaken as Karnan’s death is mourned, his body brought forth from the gallows and escorted away in vigil. The film closes with Karnan’s final, defiant statement:
