In a far-off future, The Girl lives alone inside a sealed bunker, kept company by a small fleet of antiquated robot helpers and soldiers who carry out the war she can no longer see end. Her only link to humanity is a trove of recorded journal entries by the scientist who cared for her as a baby, the one human face she has ever known. Through his words, we gradually learn the grim history: a war that escalated until Earth’s atmosphere was wrecked, human reproductive abilities faltered, and hope for the future dimmed to almost nothing. The Girl is revealed to be a clone, created as a last, desperate effort to push humanity back from the brink.

Regular radio transmissions from the enemy leader punctuate the silence with threats and taunts, and The Girl answers in kind, directing her mechanical soldiers to strike on the contaminated surface where human life cannot endure. The dynamic between attacker and antagonist grows colder and more calculative as the war drags on, each side exploiting the other’s vulnerabilities.

A turning point arrives when a transmission is exploited to hijack control of the robot army. Seizing the moment, The Girl launches a full-scale assault on the enemy base. She digs into the battlefield’s gears and memories, revealing herself to be more machine than girl as she hides inside one of the war machines, using it as an exoskeleton to punch through the defenses and overwhelm the remnants of the opposing force. The clash ends with the enemy leader dying and confessing a brutal truth: they are the last people left, and the idea of prosperous nations was nothing more than a myth built on rumor.

With the foe defeated, a cruel moral choice lands squarely on The Girl’s shoulders. She is offered the chance to spare the enemy leader or kill her. Convinced that a mercy would be mistaken, she executes the last of her foes. In response, the ancient EMP generator—something the enemy never dared to trigger—bursts to life. Its blast, a devastating reversal, collapses every machine and the bunker’s life-support systems, severing every lifeline and plunging the facility into a shutting-down quiet. The world outside remains toxic, and The Girl finds herself stranded, alone within the enemy base, with no way out.

The film closes on a stark, intimate image: alone, with the illuminator’s glow as her only companion, The Girl gazes outward, calm and unbroken, facing a future that now lies entirely in her hands.
