Set during the tumultuous landscape of the Vietnam War in 1969, the story follows Captain Benjamin L. Willard, a seasoned MACV-SOG operative. Willard is summoned to the I Field Force headquarters located in Nha Trang, where he is given a grim and highly classified assignment. He is informed that Colonel Walter E. Kurtz, a highly decorated U.S. Army Special Forces officer, has gone rogue. Kurtz has established himself at a secluded jungle outpost in eastern Cambodia, where he is waging a brutal, unauthorized war against the North Vietnamese Army, the Viet Cong, and the Khmer Rouge.
