Meeta Sen, Tanuja Samarth and Amar Sen, Sanjeev Kumar have been married for several years, their life together complicated by Amar’s demanding work schedule that leaves little room for children or intimacy. In response, Meeta takes bold steps to reshape their world: she clears out most of the household staff, keeping only Hari, A.K. Hangal, and takes charge of running the home herself. This new arrangement brings the couple closer, reviving their connection and allowing them to share a level of closeness they previously lacked.

Soon after, Meeta’s old flame, Shashi Bhushan, Dinesh Thakur, re-enters her life and unexpectedly joins the same organization where Amar works, stirring already delicate tensions in their marriage. The presence of Shashi in the same professional circle as Amar intensifies the sense of upheaval, threatening the stability they’ve rebuilt.

A telling moment unfolds at home when Amar and Shashi discuss work, and Amar reveals that he will join the office the next day because he has recovered from a flu. After Shashi leaves, Amar quietly observes him in conversation with Meeta. The following day, he asks Meeta to call Shashi, speaking in an intimidating and abrupt tone. When Shashi departs, Amar confronts Meeta and she calmly explains their past relationship, laying bare the emotional threads that bind them. Amar leaves the house in silence and asks Shashi to resign, though Shashi has already written his resignation, aware that he is a catalyst for the domestic upheaval.

the past comes between us only when we aren’t able to live the present completely.

Back at home, Amar attempts to talk with Meeta, but she responds with a light, indirect evasiveness, suggesting that she has understood that he has understood as well. The tension between past and present lingers, yet the couple ultimately embraces, choosing to face their ongoing life together.

The film was shot in Tanuja’s flat on Altamount Road, Mumbai, adding a lived-in realism to the intimate drama that unfolds between the two spouses.
