The film opens with Jyothilingam, [Mahesh], and Kani, [Anjali], teasing each other on a street where they dream of a place to call home. They have no real shelter of their own, so they end up sharing a makeshift spot among sleeping masonry workers. The moment innocent laughter turns chaotic when a fire engine loses control after colliding with another vehicle. It careens into the crowd, and Jyothilingam and Kani are badly injured, rushed to a nearby hospital as the city reels from the sudden accident.
The story then folds into a long flashback set in Tirunelveli. Jyothilingam is a bright student and the son of a mason, living a relatively happy life in a village near the town. His world shifts when tragedy strikes: his father, the sole earner for the family, dies in an accident while crossing an unmanned railway gate. Now Jyothilingam must shoulder the burden of caring for his mother and two sisters. He and hundreds of others end up working at Senthil Murugan Stores, run by the big businessman Annachi, [Pazha Karuppaiah]. The showroom floors teem with 50 to 60 salespeople on each level, who toil from dawn to late at night in conditions that feel more like servitude than ordinary labor, with little rest or dignity.
Into this harsh environment steps Kani, a fiery, independent girl, who forms a bond with Jyothilingam as they navigate the shop’s pressures and dangers. The place is ruled by Karungali, the store supervisor, [A. Venkatesh]. He is known for a brutal, lewd discipline, beating men and molesting women who dare to push back during working hours. Jyothilingam speaks of a prison-like atmosphere within the shop, where workers are treated as if they are disposable, living under constant surveillance and fear. The two young workers cling to each other as they endure the daily grind and the ever-present threat of punishment.
The plot thickens when Sneha, the actress, [Sneha], arrives at the showroom for an advertisement shoot. A die-hard fan named Marimuthu, who has collected a scrapbook of Sneha’s pictures since her childhood, manages to catch a glimpse of her and eagerly shows her the album. Sneha is touched and promises to keep the album; this small moment unfolds amid the showroom’s tension and distractions.
Tensions escalate when Karungali confronts Jyothilingam and Kani after their hidden teamwork during the shoot becomes visible on camera. In a fit of rage, Jyothilingam strikes Karungali, but he is overwhelmed by the combined force of Karungali, the police, and the supervisors. Karungali then files a police complaint alleging that Jyothilingam stole a costly saree from the shop, prompting the inspector to summon Annachi to intervene. Under pressure, Jyothilingam is eventually released.
Back at work, Jyothilingam returns to the showroom and confronts Annachi, threatening to expose the extensive fraud if Kani isn’t released. Annachi responds by ordering Karungali to release Kani, and the two vow to continue surviving and finding work wherever they can, moving from shop to shop along a street where opportunities are scarce.
A turning point comes when a blind, elderly man selling clothes offers them a chance to earn by helping sell his wares. They accept this new path and, in exchange for commissions, begin to earn a small income while also finding a safe place to sleep. The flashback ends, leaving the audience with the sense that their precarious life is far from over but that they have each other to lean on.
The hospital scene replays as Jyothilingam regains awareness and searches for Kani, who is found to have lost both legs in the accident. Marimuthu stays by Jyothilingam’s side, but the truth about Kani’s future weighs heavily on both of them. Jyothilingam resolves to marry Kani, determined to stand by her side despite the brutal changes life has dealt them.
Six months pass in a blur of hardship and persistence. Marimuthu has become Sneha’s makeup man, while Kani sits on a platform selling items to help support herself and Jyothilingam. Jyothilingam, too, continues to sell things on the streets, demonstrating the couple’s resilience in the face of crushing odds. The story closes on a note of quiet endurance, underscored by the steadfast bond between Jyothilingam and Kani as they navigate a world that may never offer them an easy future, but which they face together with stubborn hope.
