An Abandoned Team 2024

Uncle Gai Ben Yuen is a 60-year-old hot-tempered loner whose life has narrowed to solitude after a failed marriage and a distant relationship with his daughter Zoie Fish Liew. After retirement, the world feels emptied of purpose, and in a moment of deep despair he heads for the mountains, intending to end his life. Just when he is ready to give in to the darkness, a stray dog named Roast Piggy crosses his path, and the dog’s presence becomes a catalyst for change. Roast Piggy unexpectedly leads animal volunteer Una Tang Amy Lo to him, and Una’s timely intervention saves his life, setting in motion a dramatic turning point.

At first, Uncle Gai clings to his aversion to dogs, but Roast Piggy’s stubborn courage and Una’s patient encouragement begin to alter his perspective. He finds himself drawn toward the shelter that Una runs, where he starts volunteering and lending a hand with the care of abandoned stray animals. This work gradually furnishes him with a renewed sense of purpose and a reason to live, as he learns to open up emotionally and to reconnect with the world around him. With Una’s steady support, he dares to reach out to his daughter and make efforts to repair the fractured relationship that once defined his life. The process is slow and fragile, but the promise of reconciliation appears to grow with each small step he takes beside the animals he now helps.
