Vivek Prithviraj Sukumaran accepts a role as the manager of Karunalayam, a retirement home that is struggling financially. There he meets Akhila Navya Nair, a young woman whose brave stance against abuse—her complaint against her stepfather led to the jail sentence for the man who harmed her mentally ill mother—sparking a tender connection between them as they navigate the routines and challenges of life at the home. Their bond grows amid the quiet rhythms of caregiving, shared meals, and evenings spent among residents who have become a larger part of their world.
The retirement home’s future is threatened when its owner, Eradi Innocent, announces plans to sell the place, prompting Vivek to fight to keep Karunalayam open because the residents have nowhere else to go. He steps up with determination, hoping to find a way to preserve a sanctuary that countless people rely on.
Behind Akhila’s present life lies a difficult family history. Her father, Siddharthan Saikumar, was poor and entered into marriage with Akhila’s mother for money and property. After Akhila’s grandfather dies, Siddharthan learns that the grandfather did not leave any share to Akhila’s mother, and he abandons them, adding a heavy burden to the family’s struggles and shaping Akhila’s choices.
Akhila’s uncle arrives at Karunalayam to take Akhila and her mother back to the tharavad (ancestral home), a development that weighs on Vivek as he watches the two leave and wonders about what the future holds for them and for the home he’s trying to save. In a moment of desperation, Vivek contemplates selling his kidney for 5 lakhs in—his own words—a plan aimed at funding the salvage of Karunalayam.
Moved by Vivek’s willingness to sacrifice, Eradi makes a significant gesture by giving all his properties to Vivek, a turning point that strengthens the home’s prospects and demonstrates a surprising act of generosity from the man who once sought to sell it.
In the end, Akhila and her mother return to Karunalayam with two surprises for Vivek: a blank cheque to ensure the mothers’ safety within the home, and a proposed date for Akhila and Vivek’s engagement, signaling a hopeful new chapter and a shared future built on care, commitment, and community.
