American Burger 2014

American Burger follows a group of stereotypical American high school students—nerds, jocks, and cheerleaders—on a culture trip through Europe, a journey that blends lighthearted mischief with a dark, unpredictable undercurrent.

Among the students are Fat Nerd Liam Macdonald and Preppy Nerd Benjamin Perry, Camera Nerd Charlie Petersson, and Wonky Eyes Nerd Ben Thornton (whose name is later revealed to actually be Mike), Nice Cheerleader Aggy K. Adams, Adorable Cheerleader Madeleine Borg, and Ponytail Cheerleader Hanna Nygren. The group is led by an energetic Teacher, supported on screen by Lena Bengtson and Malin Dahl, who strive to keep the trip educational and safe even as chaos brews around them.

Their route leads them to the mystical country Kraketch, where the local economy centers on the American Burger Factory run by the ominous Demented Butcher Fredrik Hiller. The students are invited to tour the factory, but the invitation comes with a deadly catch: the Butchers intend to kill the visitors and haul them inside. The campus-style safety quickly dissolves into a hunt as the butchers close in, turning a sightseeing trip into a fight for survival.

Chaos gives rise to unlikely alliances as some students escape and form makeshift pacts: Fat Nerd [Liam Macdonald], Preppy Nerd [Benjamin Perry], Wonky Eyes Nerd [Ben Thornton] (Mike), and Ponytail Cheerleader [Hanna Nygren] team up, while Camera Nerd [Charlie Petersson], Jock 3 [Robert Martin], Jock 2 [Morten Halberg], Quarterback [Gabriel Freilich], and Nice Cheerleader [Aggy K. Adams] align in another tense configuration. Adorable Cheerleader [Madeleine Borg] and the Teacher characters become separated from the main group, each navigating danger in their own way as the hunt intensifies.

As the chase continues, the Butchers close in with relentless efficiency, stalking and picking off several students. Preppy Nerd is kidnapped by the butchers, who mistake him for someone who is already dead; Adorable Cheerleader endures a humiliating misadventure after consuming poison berries and loses most of her clothing, all while speaking with a lisp. Fat Nerd, resourceful and quick-thinking, steals a dead Butcher’s outfit and blends into the surroundings, while Nice Cheerleader [Aggy K. Adams] and Camera Nerd [Charlie Petersson] flee a threatening phalanx of pursuers.

Inside the factory, a surprising twist arises: Preppy Nerd is revealed to be Canadian. A repentant Demented Butcher [Fredrik Hiller] apologizes and allows Preppy Nerd to exit with a blessing, opening a path for the escapees to regroup. Preppy Nerd then locates the students’ bus and drives away from Kraketch, determined to protect his classmates and keep them moving toward safety.

On the road out of Kraketch, Preppy Nerd works to pull the scattered group together. He first rescues Adorable Cheerleader [Madeleine Borg], then Fat Nerd [Liam Macdonald], and Teacher [Malin Dahl], before finally coming to the aid of Nice Cheerleader [Aggy K. Adams], who had been cornered by a wave of butchers. With a renewed sense of resolve, the survivors climb aboard the bus and leave Kraketch behind, carrying with them the hard-won lesson that friendship and courage can outlast even the strangest, most dangerous detours.
