In this brisk action-adventure, Hiro, Master Tetsu’s grandnephew and the last of the true ninja, starts as someone who cherishes his Game Gear more than the venerable ways of the ninja. His granduncle sends him to apprentice under Joe Kastle, the American Ninja who also owns a boat, hoping Hiro will gain real-world experience and discipline from a seasoned mentor.

On the voyage of learning, Lisa Strobel helps prepare the boat, doing what she’s asked—“varnish” it—though the tale hints she was really told to tarnish it, weaving a playful tension into their first meeting. The mentor-protege dynamic deepens as Joe and Hiro grow into a team, blending street-smart skill with ancient technique in a way that keeps the balance between humor and danger.

The plot thickens when Lisa is kidnapped during a dinner by a menacing figure named Viper and a host of multi-colored ninjas. In response, the American Ninja and Hiro secretly board a plane bound for Venezuela to rescue her, navigating peril and deception along the way. The stakes rise as they uncover a deeper conspiracy: Lisa is the daughter of a scientist who is being forced to develop a nerve gas for a Latin American despot, and she works under the shadowy influence of Glock, the mastermind behind the scheme.

Before they can pull off the rescue, a mysterious ninja who appears and vanishes with a puff of smoke keeps resurfacing, testing Hiro’s resolve and forcing him to confront his legacy. To meet the challenge, the American Ninja pushes Hiro through a brief but transformative training sequence—the five-minute montage that reawakens the ancient ninja tradition within him and bonds his potential to the modern mission.

The confrontation comes to a climactic plane battle where the threat posed by Viper is finally defeated, leaving the door open for a return home.
