Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa 2013

Alan Partridge is a radio DJ at North Norfolk Digital who seems unfazed when the station is bought by a multinational company and jobs start to disappear. But Pat Farrell begs him to hijack a boardroom meeting to plead the case against layoffs, and a dramatic clash of interests unfolds. When it becomes clear that either he or Pat will be shown the door, Alan opts for a calculated ruthlessness: he urges the others to fire Pat and even scrawls the provocatively simple message “JUST SACK PAT” on the room’s flipchart, a bold move that sets the stage for the chaos to come.

At the company party that follows, Pat crashes the celebration armed with a shotgun and takes the staff hostage, demanding his job back. The crisis draws in the police, who enlist Alan as a negotiator, and he, along with Sidekick Simon, hosts a makeshift radio show from within the siege, offering running commentary as the situation unfolds. Inside, Alan fantasizes about a heroic ending but struggles to exert control when Pat’s weapon remains in Pat’s hands. As the siege garners national attention, Alan’s ego flickers back to life, and he shares a kiss with Angela, a moment that complicates the tense dynamics around him.

A mishap during the standoff—Alan locking himself out of the building and losing his trousers while re-entering through a window—reveals his ineptitude to the surrounding authorities. The police, unimpressed by his competence, deploy an undercover officer disguised as a pizza delivery person, only for Alan to intercept the pizzas himself. The situation escalates when Pat discovers a taser among the hostage gear, triggering a confrontation that bursts into the open as officers storm the station. Pat slips away aboard the station’s tour bus, taking Alan and the security guard, Michael, hostage and forcing the trio to continue the broadcast from the moving vehicle.

From the bus, the two men carry on the radio show as Pat uncovers the truth behind the redundancy, realizing that Alan masterminded his dismissal after spotting a photo. The tension peaks on Cromer Pier, where Pat and Alan clash with the police in a dramatic standoff. Michael attempts a distraction by leaping from the pier, and Pat, who reveals he is driven by grief over his wife’s death, considers shooting himself. He ultimately relinquishes the shotgun to Alan, who hesitates, and the gun fires on its own—striking Alan in the leg as a police sniper fires in response. A paramedic reassures him that he will recover, easing the immediate danger.

Returning to the workplace, Alan re-enters North Norfolk Digital with Sidekick Simon, and Pat remains reachable by phone from prison for the ensuing month. The siege’s aftermath finds Alan resuming his life—with Angela, and her sons, now in the picture—and hints at new beginnings, even as the memory of the crisis lingers in the air.
