Air Buddies 2006

Sniffer Don Knotts introduces the five Air Buddies, outlining their distinct personalities and recounting how their father, Air Bud, made Fernfield famous through his love of sports. When their families head out to a basketball game, the pups get into trouble with their sitter, Mrs. Niggles Jane Carr, by batting yarn balls around and biting into a blueberry pie. This mischief spurs their owners to consider adoption, setting a path where each puppy must discover where they truly belong.

Meanwhile, Selkirk Tander Holmes Osborne aims to impress Mr. Livingston while his son Bartleby Livingston longs for a pet he can actually play with. Bartleby wants Air Bud (Buddy) because Buddy can play sports, and Mr. Livingston offers a staggering $500,000 if Selkirk can bring Buddy to him. In response, Selkirk dispatches his nephew Grim Trevor Wright and his capable assistant Denning Paul Rae to execute the scheme.

Back at school, Noah and Henry collect profiles and photos, and the town learns that B-dawg Skyler Gisondo has earned the most interest as a potential owner; the family plans to call the chosen kids the next day. Grim and Denning arrive at Buddy’s home, only to find Buddy and Molly Molly Shannon at the same time, which makes them fear there are two Air Buds or that the dogs are mates. The next morning, the puppies decide to run away. Grim and Denning track them down and trap Budderball Josh Flitter by luring him with a doughnut. When the others come to help, they are captured as bait to snare Buddy and Molly. Buddy manages to free the others, but Denning traps him in a net. Molly tries to rescue Buddy but is captured herself. Denning and Grim haul Buddy and Molly into a truck, and the Buddies chase after them.

In wine country, Selkirk revels in the idea that capturing Buddy and Molly will let him breed the dogs for profit. Grim explains that Buddy and Molly already had puppies, a fact Denning had previously allowed to escape, and Selkirk orders the operators to lock Buddy and Molly in the wine cellar and continue the hunt. Grim is promoted to lead the mission against the Buddies. The troupe finds their way to a drive-in theater, where Grim and Denning are watching 101 Dalmatians. The Buddies slip into the projection room, their shadows appearing on screen and drawing the attention of the pursuers. A biker crowd becomes suspicious of their real intent, and Grim and Denning end up tied to the screen as the audience pelts them with popcorn and other food.

The next morning, Grim and Denning escape the theater and pursue the Buddies to a farm, where they encounter Billy the goat and Belinda the pig. The barn becomes a refuge as Billy helps the pups elude capture, and Belinda proves to be a clever ally as the Buddies flee through a stable. The dogs continue their journey through the forest and are joined by the Wolf Michael Clarke Duncan, who guides them toward wine country. A skunk’s spray restores Sniffer’s sense of smell, so he can once again lead Noah Slade Pearce and Henry to the missing pups. Buddy and Molly manage to escape and reunite with their friends, while Budderball [Josh Flitter] slips into a hole and is helped by the others to climb out.

Noah and Henry, along with the rest of the pups, confront Grim and Denning, who are finally pulled away from their capture schemes and brought to justice. They are confronted by Sheriff Bob Patrick Cranshaw and the authorities, who search the premises and arrest Selkirk, Denning, and Grim for their attempted crimes. With the dogs safe, the Buddies apologize to Buddy and Molly and reaffirm their readiness for new homes. Budderball decides to stay with Bartleby so he can have a true friend, while the others begin to meet their prospective families.

The film closes with the newly adopted packs settling into their new homes, each pup embracing the unique life that awaits them. The original five Air Buddies—Rosebud, B-Dawg, Mudbud, Buddha, Budderball—along with their friends Sniffer and The Wolf, join together in a shared chorus of howls that echoes the central idea: family isn’t defined by distance, but by loyalty, companionship, and the joy of keeping the group together despite changing surroundings.
