On a winter-storm-lashed night, an almost-empty airliner lifts off from London bound for New York. Inside, Malcolm [Mark Hamill] notices the plane begin to drift off its intended course, and one by one the passengers seem to disappear, as if pulled from the cabin without a trace. It doesn’t take long for the grim truth to reveal itself: the pilots are dead, the plane is on autopilot, and two hijackers have used force to seize control. The passengers who witnessed the hijacking are killed, their fate sealed to prevent word of the crime from spreading.

The hijackers’ goal is chilling and clear: they intend to steal the aircraft and, more ominously, a centuries-old vase aboard the flight. Legend holds that the vase houses a death god, imprisoned within its swelling, ornate walls. As fear begins to spread through the cabin, the survivors feel a creeping dread, realizing they are surrounded by danger not only from the hijackers but from a malevolent force that has just been released.

The would-be hostages fight in vain to resist, and as the crew and passengers are overpowered, they are bound to their seats. The atmosphere tightens with a sense of impending doom, as the hijackers plan to use the trapped travelers as bargaining chips to secure their loot and safe passage. In the cockpit, the autopilot keeps its deadly vigil, while outside, air traffic control frantically searches for an explanation for the sudden loss of radio contact and the inexplicable deviation from course.

Fighter jets surge to intercept, and for a tense moment the drama switches between the claustrophobic cabin and the wide expanse above the ocean. The tension escalates as the airliners’ passengers—now free from their bonds—wrestle with a growing, inexplicable violence within themselves. The death god, newly freed from the vase, begins to possess people, turning ordinary passengers into unpredictable threats in a desperate bid to find a suitable host.

As the aircraft crosses into South American airspace, the pursuing fighters ultimately withdraw, unable to keep up with a plane that now seems to be operating on its own will. The airliner begins a terrifying descent toward the sea, a trajectory that could spell disaster for everyone aboard. In a final bid to stop the unearthly force from spilling into the world, one passenger manages to disable the autopilot and take the controls, steering toward the ocean in a bid to crash the plane rather than let the death god escape.

A last-ditch struggle unfolds between a few people who are briefly possessed—one of the hijackers among them—and the passenger who fights with every ounce of resolve to bring the craft down safely. In a heart-stopping moment, the death god abandons the body just as the plane meets the water, and the survivor lets out a piercing scream into the radio, a final cry that echoes the nightmare they’ve endured.

Back in London, the calm after the storm is anything but. The authorities move quickly to erase what happened from public memory, escorting the air traffic controllers out of the control room to remove any trace of witnesses. In a haunting coda, the eyes of one controller briefly flash blue, a sign that the death god may have found a new home, continuing to haunt even the aftermath of the crash.
