Aglaya 2012

A young girl named Aglaja recounts her family's story, centered on the complex bond between a mother and daughter. The narrative explores themes of family separation, the challenges of belonging, and growing up, all seen through Aglaja's perspective. Based on true events, the film follows an Eastern European circus artist family who escaped to the West and must create a unique act to survive. The mother invests heavily in a perilous performance – hanging by her hair while juggling flaming torches – filling her daughter with nightly fear. Eventually, Aglaja must embrace the family legacy and become the "Woman with the Hair of Steel."
