Abbott and Costello Go to Mars 1953

Orville, the oldest orphan at the Hideaway Orphans Home, accidentally hides inside a truck bound for a top-secret laboratory. He is placed under the supervision of lab worker Lester to help load supplies onto an experimental rocket ship. The rocket blasts off, carrying them across the country and eventually landing outside of New Orleans as Mardi Gras fills the streets with color and music.

Thinking they have landed on Mars, Orville and Lester don space suits and wander into the festive city, mistaking the grotesquely costumed revelers for Martians, while the locals assume they are just more masked participants.

Meanwhile, two escaped convicts, Harry the Horse, and Mugsy, stumble upon the rocket and decide to rob a bank in New Orleans and steal clothes.

Lester and Orville are wrongly accused of the crime and flee back to the rocket ship, where Mugsy and Harry force them to launch again and demand to reach Mars for real.

On their way to space, the ship deviates and lands on Venus, where the four men are captured by female guards and brought before Queen Allura. Mari Blanchard explains that Venus is inhabited only by women because men were banished long ago, and she quickly takes a liking to Orville, making him her king consort on the condition that he remains true to her. Orville agrees, and Allura imprisons Harry and Mugsy.

To prove he cannot be trusted, Mugsy persuades one of the guards to flirt with Orville, which leads the Queen to withdraw her trust and order all men to leave Venus.

Returning to Earth, the men are paraded as heroes, but Allura, watching from Venus, launches a spaceship to Earth to drop a cake on Orville’s head, turning the celebration into a comic reminder of her power over the situation.
