Spoilers ahead
An unusual opening thread sets the tone for the film: an old woman, Youn Yuh-jung, who has lived thirty years as a solitary widow, prays to a Jangseung totem for a companion. In a surprising twist, the totem answers by offering its nose, a magical component tied to a spell that promises heightened sexual pleasure. The scene reads as a cheeky nod to a 1993 South Korean softcore film, Mueose seuneun mulgeoningo, and it signals that humor and mythic ritual will mingle with far darker impulses as the story unfolds.
