A Lucky Day 2002

In 2000, Elsa is a 25-year-old woman who barely makes a living as a street-level promotional worker in Buenos Aires, scraping by with small-time schemes and the occasional theft from her boss to survive. Her days revolve around handing out flyers for “anti-stress” tablets to motorists and pedestrians, and slipping into quirky outfits for fast-food promotions—a routine that feels demeaning yet keeps her afloat.

Against the backdrop of a city in economic crisis, the film interweaves documentary-like scenes of protests and the 2001 riots, captured with a handheld camera that lends immediacy to the chaos around her.

Elsa clings to a private dream: to flee to Italy, where a former lover went in search of better opportunities. That fantasy echoes a twist of family history: her anarchist grandfather left Italy years ago to escape poverty and still holds anti-establishment views, even as he encourages her to follow her heart. Darío Vittori embodies that tension onscreen, a link to a larger, transatlantic past.

Her boyfriend, Walter, protests the trip, complicating Elsa’s longing. The dream remains largely a fantasy, a coping mechanism to ease the strain of surviving Argentina’s downturn.
