In 1983, a platoon of recruits on a jungle island (based on Pulau Tekong) is nearing the end of basic training when a ghost story surfaces: a mad woman who died at 23:59 would return to haunt the camp at that exact moment. Tan Tedd Chan, the platoon outcast, claims he is haunted, while Jeremy Henley Hii remains skeptical.

During a route march, Tan disappears and is later found dead. The recruits and their sergeant Kuah Mark Lee believe the death could be supernatural, but their officer insists it was an accident. Jeremy has a nightmare about Tan’s ghost, ominously warning that Chester, another recruit, will be the next to die.

That night, Chester Josh Lai is possessed by a spirit and must be restrained until a priest is brought in to exorcise him. Jeremy confronts Chester about Tan’s death and learns that Chester and Tan had encountered the ghost of a woman on guard duty the same night. Jeremy has also seen the same apparition several times since Tan’s death.

Seeking answers, Jeremy and Chester learn from a local that the woman was a medium who had given birth to a deformed girl. The girl grew up ostracised because of her appearance, and both mother and daughter were thought to be cursed. That night, Chester and Jeremy hear a strange noise and follow it into the jungle, where Chester is killed by an unseen force. Jeremy injures his leg while fleeing and takes shelter in the medium’s house, where he discovers the medium’s skeleton on a rocking chair and encounters her ghost again. She tells him she was not responsible for the recruits’ deaths; it was actually her daughter’s ghost who killed them.

Years earlier, the medium had poisoned her daughter to death and then committed suicide. Jeremy is possessed by the medium’s spirit, who apologises and reconciles with her daughter’s ghost. The sergeant and two recruits eventually find Jeremy in the house; he recovers and returns home safely after completing basic training.

In the present day, three recruits again recount the same ghost story on the island. As the clock nears 23:59, they hear the same eerie noises, leaving the truth of the haunting lingering in the air.
