In 1866, a mysterious sea monster stalks the depths of the oceans, emerging only to attack and destroy innocent ships and claim lives in its wake. As fear spreads across the globe, experts race to identify the creature and, if possible, put a stop to the deadly pattern before more vessels and crews are lost. At the center of this chase are three men: the eminent marine expert Professor Pierre Aronnax Paul Woodson, his loyal companion Conseil, and the stalwart harpooner Ned Land Tom Burlinson. Their quest begins aboard the sturdy ship Abraham Lincoln, setting sail from Long Island with the hope of catching a glimpse of the strange predator and perhaps understanding its true nature.
