At first, the group leans toward a guilty verdict, the material appearing straightforward and the case seemingly solid.

Yet one juror breaks from the consensus, lingering on doubts and insisting that there may be more to learn before passing judgment. Juror 2, Wang Gang, challenges the premise and pushes to test every claim, however unsettling that may be for the others. The discussion grows sharper as their different personalities and strong opinions collide, with Juror 3, Han Tongsheng, and Juror 8, He Bing, adding their own pointed questions to the mix. The exercise becomes a patient, cross‑examination of the evidence itself, as timelines are re‑examined and hypotheses revised under careful scrutiny.

As more jurors participate and re‑weigh the details, a number of voices begin to entertain the possibility of reasonable doubt, and the debate shifts from certainty toward cautious doubt. The heat wears on them, and the weight of responsibility erodes their initial confidence, turning vigorous talk into a painstaking search for truth. One by one, the panel starts to adopt a more nuanced view, until the group reaches a collective conclusion: the boy is not guilty.

When the verdict lands, the room shows signs of exhaustion, the energy spent on unraveling a case that had seemed airtight. The juror who had pushed for exhaustive consideration—the one who stood apart from the others—is revealed to be a prosecutor of the People’s Republic of China. In the closing credits, it is noted that the actual perpetrator was arrested a month later.
