Will Smith Return to Men in Black Franchise Rumored

Sony Pictures is reportedly planning a new installment in the Men in Black franchise with the aim of bringing back Will Smith as Agent J. According to Deadline, the studio has tasked Chris Bremner, screenwriter for Bad Boys for Life, to pen a script that includes the character, giving Smith first option to rejoin the series. While Smith is not officially attached, the move suggests a strategic effort to reinvigorate the IP following the mixed reception of 2019’s Men in Black: International.

The original Men in Black film in 1997 was a major blockbuster success for Smith and the studio. The most recent entry, Men in Black: International, featured a new cast including Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson. That film garnered a 66% audience score and faced significant criticism from reviewers, but it still managed a global box office take of $253 million. Sony’s potential pivot back to the original star mirrors its successful revival of the Bad Boys franchise with Smith.
