New ‘Michael’ Trailer Showcases Jaafar Jackson as Michael Jackson
Lionsgate and Universal Pictures have unveiled the newest trailer for Michael, the highly anticipated biopic of Michael Jackson directed by Antoine Fuqua. The footage provides the most comprehensive look yet at Jaafar Jackson’s transformation into the King of Pop, his late uncle, building significant buzz for the film’s release on April 24, 2026.
The trailer recreates pivotal moments from Jackson’s career, including studio sessions, the creation of iconic music videos, and electrifying live performances. An official synopsis promises the film will trace his journey from a child star with the Jackson 5 to a global solo phenomenon, exploring both his on-stage genius and his life off-stage.
A Stunning Family Resemblance
Jaafar Jackson’s casting has been met with widespread approval, a sentiment amplified by the new trailer. Viewers have praised the actor’s striking physical resemblance to his uncle, with many comments on the trailer highlighting the emotional impact of seeing “the King returns.” Director Antoine Fuqua has emphasized that Jaafar’s performance goes beyond imitation, capturing Michael Jackson’s unique spirit in a “magical way.”
Record-Breaking Trailer Buzz
Even before its 2026 release, Michael is demonstrating massive audience interest. The film’s teaser trailer, released in November, set a record by amassing 116.2 million views within 24 hours. This achievement makes it the most-viewed music biopic trailer in history and the largest trailer launch ever for Lionsgate.
Supporting Cast of Icons
The biopic features an acclaimed ensemble cast portraying key figures in Jackson’s life and career:
- Colman Domingo as Joe Jackson
- Nia Long as Katherine Jackson
- Jessica Sula as LaToya Jackson
- Miles Teller as attorney John Branca
- Larenz Tate as Motown founder Berry Gordy
- Laura Harrier as music executive Suzanne de Passe

Fuqua has stated the final film will present a nuanced portrait of the superstar, showcasing “the good, bad, and the ugly” aspects of his life, though the recent trailers have focused on his artistic triumphs.
