Event Horizon Sequel Announced as Comic, Streaming on Paramount+ in 2026

Fans of the cult classic sci-fi horror film Event Horizon have received a major update: a sequel is officially in development. However, instead of a new movie, the follow-up will be a comic book series from IDW Publishing, set for release in early 2026. In related news, the original 1997 film will also be available for streaming on Paramount+ starting the same year.

The Comic Book Sequel: Event Horizon: Inferno

The new series, Event Horizon: Inferno, is written by Christian Ward with art by Rob Carey. It is scheduled to begin with issue #1 on February 4, 2026. The story is set 200 years after the events of the film and follows a billionaire who leads a private fleet to the wreckage of the Event Horizon ship near Neptune, intent on uncovering its secrets regardless of the cost to his crew. This announcement follows a previous prequel comic miniseries, Event Horizon: Dark Descent.

Original Film’s Legacy and New Streaming Home

Directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, Event Horizon was released in August 1997 and starred Laurence Fishburne, Sam Neill, Kathleen Quinlan, and Joely Richardson. While it was not a box office success upon release, failing to recoup its $60 million budget with a $42 million gross, it has since gained a significant cult following for its intense cosmic horror and psychological themes. The film will begin streaming on Paramount+ on January 1, 2026, introducing it to a new generation of viewers.
