Action Thriller ‘Becky’ Returns to Netflix for January 2026

The independent action thriller Becky is set to stream on Netflix beginning January 1, 2026. The film, which garnered a cult following after its hybrid release during the COVID-19 pandemic, will be joined on the platform by its well-received 2023 sequel, The Wrath of Becky.

Film Release and Box Office Performance

Directed by Jonathan Milott and Cary Murnion, Becky was released on June 5, 2020, in select drive-in theaters and via digital on-demand services. Despite the challenging circumstances, the film performed respectably, finishing second in its opening weekend with a box office haul of $205,797 and reaching #12 on the iTunes chart.

The film stars Lulu Wilson as the titular Becky, a teenager on a weekend getaway with her father (Joel McHale) whose trip is violently interrupted by a group of escaped convicts led by an against-type Kevin James. The supporting cast includes Robert Maillet, Amanda Brugel, and Isaiah Rockcliffe.

Becky received a mixed response, holding a 72% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes against a 52% audience score. Its success, however, paved the way for a sequel. The Wrath of Becky, released in 2023, was met with greater acclaim, earning a “Certified Fresh” 89% rating from critics and a 77% audience score.

The future of the franchise is secure, with a third film officially in development. Confirmation came via a Deadline report earlier this year, which noted that star Lulu Wilson, after wrapping another project, “will next head to the set of the third and final installment in the Becky franchise.” Wilson is confirmed to reprise her role as the rage-fuelled antihero.
